Brazilian V8 Stock Cars: Drivers chase the Million in Interlagos

The Million Reais Race is back to São Paulo after two seasons being held in Goiânia

After two years being held in Goiânia, the Million Reais Race, Brazilian V8 Stock Cars’ most prestigious race of the season, is back to the country’s most famous and legendary venue. The circuit of Interlagos, in São Paulo, hosts the seventh round of 2016 awarding a million reais (around 310,000 US Dollars) to the race winner.

This weekend will hold the ninth edition of the race. In 2008, Valdeno Brito celebrated his first Stock Car win taking a million dollars as a prize; in 2010, at Interlagos, Ricardo Maurício took all the money; Thiago Camilo won the race three times (2011 and 2012 in São Paulo and 2015 in Goiânia); and former F1 drivers Ricardo Zonta (2013) and Rubens Barrichello (2014) raised the big check.

Unlike the previous rounds, Interlagos will host only one Stock Car race, 45-minutoes long with one mandatory pit stop for tyres and refueling. There will be no prize money for second and third placed drivers. The winner takes it all.

The ‘Million Race’ will be broadcast live by Globo TV this Sunday at 10 am local time (2 pm GMT).
